Rallye Aicha des Gazelles is underway

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

A 9 day off road driving event covering some of southern Morocco’s most challenging terrain started last week on Wednesday 17th. Drivers have to navigate their way through a challenging course without the use of ultra modern navigation equipment; GPS, mobile phones and even modern maps.

The event is the only all-women off road rally in the world, and this year all 110 teams, from 14 countries, passed the vehicle inspections at the ceremonial race start in Sete, France.

The event legs combine strategic driving skill with a keen ability in navigation. Race participants range from celebrities to Olympic athletes taking on another challenge. The event is expected to finish on Saturday the 27th March.

20th Rally Aicha des Gazelles Announced

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

The Rally Aicha des Gazelles is a women-only off-road rally event which involves crossing parts of the Sahara and low lying High Atlas mountains in southern Morocco. It was a concept born in 1990 which has run every year since. Soon the 2010 race will begin.

The rally takes place over 2 weeks and 6 different legs within some of the most inhospitable terrain in the world. Each day the international teams are provided with a “Road Book” for the day’s course. The courses vary from team to team, depending on capabilities of the vehicle being used and to stop teams from following other competitors’ tracks.

Teams will compete for an average 10 to 13 hours every day, without phones, computers or GPS. The 120 teams from 30 nations will rev up on 13th March.
