Finally the Adventure Travel Trade Association comes closer to home (for our Scottish visitors anyway), with the announcement that their 2010 World Summit (ATWS) will be held in Aviemore, Scotland. In previous years the summit has been held in locations including Seattle, Washington; Whistler, British Columbia; Brazil; Norway and Quebec, Canada.

Over 500 ATWS delegates will be invited to attend. Based in the Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park, the 2010 ATWS promises to be pretty scenic. The Cairngorms themselves are home to some of the largest, beautiful and most challenging Munros in the whole of Scotland. Giving the sense of being a single plateau the Cairngorms can be traversed without dropping below 740 MASL, the height of Lairig an Laoigh.

Scotland in general, but the Aviemore area in particular is absolutely stunning, offering adventurers of all levels the chance to explore, kayak, climb and mountain bike to their heart’s content. If previous years are anything to go by, the 2010 ATWS will be full of opportunities to sample some, if not all of the adventures that the local area has to offer.
